Celebrating Lili's new life

Lili a Jewish woman in her eighties has been studying the Bible with Rahel Landrum. As a child, Lili had been impressed by the faith of Dr. Churcher, our missionary who ran a medical mission in Haifa.

Audio testament

Lili and Rahel continued to meet regularly to study the New Testament. Despite initial objections from Lili’s religious family, over this time Lili became more and more open to Jesus. As Lili’s eyesight is poor, Rahel gave her a device containing an audio New Testament and some sermons. Lili began listening to it day and night! During a recent study, Lili told Rahel that she now properly understood the concept of sin and saw herself as a sinner, rather than thinking this only applied to the worst in society, such as criminals. She also said she had a much better understanding of Jesus.

Smallest of faith

However, Lili shared the concern that her faith was very small; she had lots of things to worry about in life and was worried that these issues distracted her from thinking about spiritual things. Turning to the parable of the mustard seed, Rahel explained that God can still do the most amazing things with even the smallest of faith.

Providentially, the chapter we were studying that day was Matthew chapter 8 which contains accounts of people whom Jesus encountered, who possessed varying levels of faith. At the end of the study, Rahel was overjoyed when Lili told her that she wanted to start a new life with Jesus.

Beaming smile

Lili then prayed to God, repenting of her sin and looking to Jesus as her Saviour. Rahel was delighted to see a beaming smile on Lili’s face when she had finished her prayer!

Give thanks that – 75 years after first meeting one of our missionaries – Lili is now following Jesus. Please pray that she will continue to grow in grace and that her faith in Jesus will be great.
